Well, the tree's put away, all the decorations were neatly stored in the attic; all is back to normal... Are you missing it yet??? I kinda' am. I liked our decorations this year. I really didn't overdue it at all, but, what I did like was everywhere you looked, you saw a little Christmas here and there. It was a wonderful holiday, filled with lots of family and friends, although, at times it was nice and quiet. A friend asked me how my holiday was, and I replied, "It was both hectic and quiet." He said, "I'm not surprised; you just described yourself." Thanks, Frank. I kinda liked that...
It's been wonderful/terrific having Pat at home. Tonight, we walked the dogs and I cooked a simple meal - which he thanked me for. I miss those times when he's at school. He's really grown up a lot this last year. On our walk, I said, "I can't believe you'll be a junior in college next year!" He agreed. He said it went so fast. Good kid...
Pat and his friend Todd were in New York City for a couple days; they went to see a Rangers game. It was his first time there and he LOVED it. He couldn't believe the hustle and bustle and the fast walkers, the ever-so crowded streets, the stores and stores and more stores and more and more restaurants. It was a nice experience for him to do that. Next, I gotta take his Dad, 'cause Internet, he's never been there! Now that's gonna be a blog story and a half!
The crazy work world of UC has been insane! I'm flooded with sad stories every day of folks barely hangin' on. It's saddened me, especially during the holidays. However, what it has done is deepened my belief in the human spirit and resilience, and has forced me to reflect upon the many blessings we have. On the other hand, what has blown my mind is the work opportunities that have arisen because of this UC situation. Kinda a oxi-moran in a way, or bittersweet...something like that. I have a young friend who I've worked with for a few years...I know he has a good 30 or so more years to work, and have seen him get two promotions in the last six months. Those are the stories that sustain me and see me through the gloomy ones.
Count your blessings tonight instead of sheep, kiss your kids and pups, hug and kiss your lover too... It's not so bad, and you can always, always find something sweet.
