Pat hit a homerun tonight, at Elizabethtown College Baseball Field in the pouring rain! We were sooooo thrilled for him! Joe and I got there a little late 'cause we weren't sure where the field was... Anyway, as we were walking to the field, our Raiders were in the field and I looked for Pat, and I saw that he wasn't on the field (doing a little bench warming I thought....). So, we took our time, and walked up to the stadium. What a nice little stadium they have there! We were impressed with their field. It was the bottom of the Second Inning when we got there, and they were up, 2-0. Then, the Raiders came up to bat. Pat was fifth in the line-up; he was DH. We had two boys on base. Pat comes up to the plate, fouls a high pitch off, then looks at the next pitch which was a strike, then a ball, THEN THE ONE THAT HE LIKES, And BAM! Did it ever go!!!!! He hit it to right field, 340 feet, clear over the fence, and out of the park! I had no idea it was going that far!!!! I lost it up in the air, against the gray sky... But everyone in the stands started to scream, and Joe kinda whispers, "I think that's going over the fence", ... Then....... there it went!!!!! We were all screaming; it was soooo nice for Pat and our team!
As Pat was coming up to bat... the sky opened up a bit... a little drissle here and there.... his second and third pitch... ok, it's coming down pretty hard... By the time he hit the homer, it was a downpour! It was really coming down hard! The umps called the guys to the dugouts, and we waited for a while... Finally, about 15 mins. later, they called the game.... Our poor Raiders, finally winning a game to a nice team, up 3-2, and the game's called!!!!!! Tough luck there....
Didn't matter for Pat. When I picked him up, he was higher than a kite, very very pleased. It was our last game, and he was happy to end the season on that note. After the game was called, Joe had run down to the other side of the field, and he found the ball in a little patch of grass over the hill....and I handed Pat the homerun ball! He was happy with that.
Anyway, a nice game for Pat and our Raiders. Sorry there's no pictures. I took my camera but it was entirely too wet to snap any pictures. My luck huh??? My kid hits a homerun, and I didn't document it??? I'm a horrible horrible Mother!
We came home and had subs and Anniversary cake. A wonderful end to a fabulous day....
Folks, does it get any better than that???? Homerun....Subs....Anniversary Cake.... I don't think so.
